Six years ago, I moved to the Costa del Sol with a clear intention: to build a healthier, more balanced life for myself and my family. My children were two and three years old, my husband and I were both self-employed, and we were starting again from the ground up in a new country. It was exciting, but also deeply overwhelming. I was navigating motherhood, building a business, and adjusting to a completely different way of life, all at once.

What I did not fully appreciate then was this: moving somewhere new does not automatically create a new way of living. If you carry the same habits, pressures, and expectations with you, you can very quickly recreate the same life you were trying to change. That realisation shaped everything that came next.

How Costa Health Began

In the early days, I started small. I set up a chiropractic clinic from home, working around nap times, school runs, and the unpredictability of family life. It was not glamorous, but it was real, and it was flexible enough to fit around the season of life I was in.

Over time, that grew into Costa Health. What began as a home-based practice evolved into clinics in Mijas and Marbella, alongside a wider multidisciplinary approach focused on injury, rehabilitation, and helping people feel stronger and more confident in their bodies.

From the beginning, there was something that mattered just as much as the clinical work itself: the feeling people left with. There is a quote by Maya Angelou that has always stayed with me. “People may not remember exactly what you said, but they will remember how you made them feel” This has been a foundation for how I have built my businesses over the years.and what I continued with  how I built Costa Health, not just as a place to receive care, but as a space where people felt seen, supported, and understood.

The Turning Point

As the business grew, I found myself struggling with my own health. Hormones, energy levels, mental wellbeing. These are things that are often dismissed or normalised, especially when you are trying to hold everything together for everyone else.

What stood out most was not just what I was experiencing, but how difficult it was to find the right support. I often felt like I was searching for answers that were either fragmented or simply not there in a way that made sense for real life.

That experience forced me to step back and ask a different question: what does real health actually look like? Not just physically, but emotionally, mentally, and practically, especially when you are raising a family, running a business, and living in a country that is not your own.

Evolving the Work

Costa Health continued to grow, both in its physical presence and in how it supports people. With clinics in Mijas and Marbella, the in-person work remains an important part of what we do. Over time, however, I came to realise that support does not have to be limited to a physical space.

The same feeling we create in clinic, that sense of being understood and supported, can also exist beyond those walls. This led to the development of a more connected online space, not separate from the clinic, but an extension of it. A way to support people in their everyday lives, not just during appointments.

In many families, women are often the ones holding everything together. Supporting women became a natural progression of the work, not as a fixed niche, but as a reflection of real life. When women feel well, the impact is felt across the entire family.

Quick Tip: If you are feeling stretched, overwhelmed, or disconnected, support does not always have to come from a single place. Community, shared experience, and the right guidance can make a meaningful difference.

Real Wellness of the Costa del Sol

Alongside Karen, I co-founded the Real Wellness of the Costa del Soul community. What started as simple conversations between women grew into a space for honest connection, shared experience, and practical support, a place where people could speak openly about the realities of life here, not just the highlights.

This community brings together everything I have learned: the experience of moving countries, starting again, and navigating family life, health, and identity in a completely new environment. It is not about perfection. It is about creating something real, a space where people feel supported, informed, and less alone.

What This Is Really About

This experience has taught me that real health is not a fixed destination. It is something that evolves as your life changes. It requires awareness, support, and a willingness to do things differently, even when that feels uncomfortable.

Costa Health, both in clinic and beyond it, has grown from that understanding. It exists to support people not just in how they move, but in how they live, creating spaces, both physical and online, where people feel genuinely cared for.

Choosing a new life is one thing. Actually living it, and allowing yourself to do it differently, is something else entirely. And that is where the real work begins.

Quick Tip: Whether you are new to the Costa del Sol or have been here for years, finding the right health support can take time. Costa Health’s multidisciplinary teams are here to help you feel stronger, more informed, and better supported at every stage.
